Kennametal’s engine expertise and application engineering support keep the world’s data centers running 24/7.
Why it matters: Kennametal’s newest growth initiative, PowerGen, is building the AI age.
- The Kennametal team combines deep application engineering expertise and advanced tooling solutions to help customers build Prime Power Generators and Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) systems for data centers around the world.
This is the first story in our new series, Built to Lead, about how our team is transforming how everyday life is built.
Kennametal is leading the charge in powering the AI era. With decades of engine expertise, we are trusted partners to customers that are building the engines that keep data centers humming. As demand for nonstop power surges, Kennametal is at the forefront of this high-growth market.
“It’s exciting to see how fast this this industry is growing and to be part of changing the world as we move into the AI age,” said Travis Morrison, Key Account Manager.
Data centers require both primary power and backup systems to operate around the clock. That’s where the Kennametal team comes in. With a longstanding reputation as experts in diesel and internal combustion engines, Kennametal is highly experienced in providing application engineering support and advanced metal cutting solutions needed to make massive power generators. And our team is growing and innovating to meet the industry’s evolving needs with speed and precision.
“We talk intelligently about the machining process because we know their product well,” said Jeremy Ware, Key Account Specialist and former machinist with 10 years at Kennametal. “I’m focused on solving customer’s problems and selling the right solution for the job.”
Kennametal experts work right alongside PowerGen customers to solve manufacturing challenges, boost productivity and deliver custom solutions quickly. Customers demand speed and our approach builds loyalty and drives revenue opportunities.
“Application engineering is really key to the relationship,” said Jason Gonzalez, Key Account Specialist based in Texas, who spends about 95% of his time at customer plants. “These customers need a high level of technical ability, and being on-site lets us move fast. The faster we move, the better it is for everyone.”

To keep pace with growth, Kennametal is expanding our team strategically. Manuel Trujillo joined in February to support a PowerGen customer in Monterrey, Mexico. Using his Six Sigma Green Belt, MBA and prior experience, Trujillo improved communication and implemented a solution that significantly cut delivery time—a major win for the customer and a competitive advantage for Kennametal.
“I’m working to create process improvements that help my customers work faster and more efficiently by giving them access to information in real-time giving them the opportunity to be ready to run their lines as soon as our tooling hits the shopfloor,” said Trujillo.
Tool testing is another area where Kennametal is delivering value to customers and earning their loyalty.
“The amount of tool testing we’re doing for our customers is significantly larger than our competitors,” Gonzalez said.
Morrison added that tracking tool testing helps customers understand the scope of Kennametal’s contributions, showcasing our commitment to innovation, measurable ROI and customer success.
What's next
