Wear and tear are always a concern when it comes to tooling solutions. There’s no exception with road maintenance scarifier or grader teeth – especially when breaking up, leveling, or removing material from a gravel surface. Kennametal’s latest tooth design features an innovative retainer and washer combination for block face and bore protection. The new design enhances grader performance, facilitates easy change-outs, and increases tool life. But don’t take our word for it, see read all about this in our proven solution.
Kennametal Offers a Change for the Better
Road maintenance departments in two counties, one in Michigan and another in Florida, had long relied on our workhorse C87KCSB SR (1010937)blade teeth for grading gravel roads. But when both departments first heard about our new blade teeth that would enable more work to get done, they jumped at the opportunity to road-test them.
Hit the Road with Exceptional Grading Tools
- Kennametal’s scarifier blade teeth offer features that lend itself to exceptional road grading performance for the industry. But our new C87WT SB (6991231) blade teeth are truly next level.
- Made for 22mm grooved block bores, they feature an innovative retainer and washer combination that protects both the block face and bore. During these tests, the operators stated these tools rotated better than the previous version of our tools they used. Increased rotation can reduce flat spots, preventing premature tool failure and minimizing machine downtime.
Benefits of Retainer:
- Features easy-install positive lock
- Enables one tab opposite of the opening to be sheared if debris build up prevents normal tooth removal
- Provides consistent installation and removal forces, facilitating tooth change-outs
Benefits of Washer:
- Pre-compresses the retainer for reliable installation
- Requires less compression clearance, reducing debris build-up
The Kennametal Solution
Each county swapped out the Kennametal C87KCSB SR (1010937) scarifier blade teeth with our new C87WT SB (6991231) road grading tools on a motor grader. Don’t Just Scrape By — Do More with Kennametal Road Grading Tools
After one month of running our new tools, both counties reported that all were running well and rotating evenly, with most of the wear evident only on their carbide teeth.
- Miles Cut – Graders: 15 each
- Miles Cut – Truck: 40
In total, 70 miles of gravel roads were cut by the Michigan county’s truck tools before winter conditions set in. Our new tools also had no issues rotating and retaining in holders even when the more worn tools were removed from the scarifier blade’s center and reinstalled on its flanks. In fact, the Florida county got up to 14 months’ use from our tools using this method!
